Use your own domain
Put your wedding site on a domain you own, like alexandsam.com, and keep every link you've already sent working.
Updated October 9, 2026
Your site always has a WedKit address. On the full plan you can also put it on a domain you own, like alexandsam.com. Only your public site moves to the domain; your dashboard stays on wedkit.ca.
Before you start
Buy the domain from a registrar such as GoDaddy, Namecheap or Cloudflare. WedKit doesn't sell domains. You can use the main domain (alexandsam.com) or a subdomain of one you already own (wedding.smithfamily.ca).
Connect it
- Open Custom domain (in your dashboard: Wedding Details) in Wedding Details and enter your domain.
- Copy the DNS records we show into your registrar's DNS settings. A main domain needs two records, an A record and a CNAME for www. A subdomain needs one CNAME.
- Wait for the status to change to "Live". It usually takes a few minutes, sometimes a few hours. The page checks automatically while it's open, or select "Check now".
On Cloudflare, set each record's proxy status to "DNS only" (the grey cloud). Proxied records won't connect.
What changes once it's live
- Invitations, reminders and links you copy from the dashboard use your domain.
- Links you've already sent, including QR codes, keep working and forward to your domain.
- Printed QR codes from the dashboard still use your WedKit link, so they keep working even if the domain lapses.
If it stops working
If your domain stops pointing to your site, for example because a record was changed or the domain expired, we email you and send guests to your WedKit link until it's fixed. Your site never goes offline.
